SafeCross lights crosswalks when pedestrians approach

SafeCross is an active crosswalk system that detects pedestrians and lights their path at exactly the right moment. It sounds obvious, but unfortunately it still is not standard.
The system grew out of one frightening incident. One evening, Even Yehuda resident Matan Bachar was driving and, during a moment of inattention, nearly hit a pedestrian. Instead of moving on and forgetting about it, he decided to build a system that could prevent the next accident.
Matan Katzman, head of the Even Yehuda Local Council, backed the effort and ran a pilot in the town. I hope SafeCross reaches more places across Israel soon. The technology to save lives already exists, and it should become standard on every street.
