Casio moves from watches to emotional robots

Casio is launching Moflin in the United States, and it is not a watch. It is a small, cute, furry robot designed to reduce stress.
Moflin costs $429, about 1,000 shekels. It looks like a soft pet and develops its own “personality” based on how its owner interacts with it. The launch is planned for October 1, and preorders are already open.
Casio has spent decades being identified with watches, calculators, and personal electronic devices. Now it is entering the market for emotional experiences and therapeutic technology.
I cannot ignore how cute this creature is, or the discomfort that comes from knowing it is also robotic and mechanical. This is only the beginning of a future filled with hybrids like Moflin: a mechanical mind built for a human heart.
